My time at Fusion

I have been working at Fusion Analytics for over 2 years now, after graduating from Wilfrid Laurier University with degrees in Business and Financial Math. Reflecting on that time it is exciting to see how much I have been able to accomplish.

I have worked on some cool projects, my favourite being a year-end review of all the TV campaigns a retailer ran for that year. Instead of looking at the success of each TV ad in isolation, I analyzed a full year of consumer opinions changing on this retailer and recommended tactical and strategic changes to maximize campaign performance in the future. It was really exciting to present this to the client and see some of my ideas and suggestions come to life in ads I saw on TV in the year that followed.

In another project I worked on we wanted to do some more qualitative research using online bulletin boards, something that Fusion had not done before. I worked with other team members to design a website for this purpose, and moderated online discussions with consumers across Canada. Not only was this an exciting learning opportunity for me, but I also get to see other consultants use the bulletin board now. It is very rewarding to see my work impact not only my client but Fusion as a whole.

On top of all the interesting work I have had the opportunity to do, I have seen so much personal growth. I look back to how nervous I was the first time I went into a meeting with a client to present a report, whereas now I present and answer questions with confidence. My problem-solving skills are another area that I have been able to improve upon since being in this role. I have been required to be creative to try to answer problems using available data, and find that I now always have ideas on how to tackle difficult problems. Finally, I have been exposed to so many analytical techniques over my time at Fusion. From improving my Excel skills, to PowerPivot, to even learning how to use SQL and R to do analysis, I feel equipped to tackle all the problems that come at me.

Another amazing thing that has happened over the past 2 years is the relationships that I have been able to build with my coworkers. A unique quality that Fusion has is our lack of competitiveness between employees, which allows us to become good friends. I have had lots of fun at some of our company events, whether it is the annual BBQ, climbing the CN Tower, or our monthly board game nights. Often we plan fun activities outside of work as well; we have gone skiing at Blue Mountain, to a Jays game and tree planting just to name a few.

I am excited to see what comes next for me at Fusion!
